Roger Federer
Tennis superstar Roger Federer is a Swiss who is considered the greatest tennis player ever. How is it possible that Federer towers above all the others with his constant successes during the last years? His journey to the top is impressive.
Talent
Federer is an exceptionally versatile tennis player who can play agressively from the baseline as well as win with a volley at the net. His arsenal of strikes is wide and he has a well trained footwork to his disposal. He prefers grass courts because of the speed and the low flight of the ball, but because of his versatility he feels at home on every type of court - only at Roland Garros he never won, but he played in many finals. Since 2005 Federer and his five years younger opponent Rafaël Nadal are the unrivalled # 1 and 2 in the ATP-circuit. Nadal defeated Federer in the semi final of Roland Garros 2005 and since then he only lost two matches on gravel (of which one against Federer) until the final of Roland Garros in 2008. Nadal is the only one who regularly booked victories against Federer in the grand slam.
UNICEF
In 2003 Federer started the Roger Federer Foundation with the goal to finance projects for less gifted children in South Africa, the country where his mother growed up. In 2005 he devoted himself to the UN-year of the sport. After the tsunami in 2004 he organized several tennis events to collect money for the victims. In 2006 he was appointed Goodwill Ambassador at UNICEF (source: Wikipedia).
